On June 16th, 2012, hundreds of Elite Africans and distinguished residents of New York, New Jersey, Philadelphia, Connecticut, and guests all over the United States were witnesses as Ghanaian beauty Joyce Oppongwah was crowned Miss Africa Tri State CONGRATULATIONS !!!

Here’s Joyce in her own words…

Hello everyone, My name is Joyce Oppongwah . I am 22 years old. I was born in GHANA, came to the States when I was 9 years old. I’m a current student at Union County College and plan to transfer to Penn State University or Rutgers University in the fall. I am pursing a nursing major. I’ve always had a passion for being around kids and watching them as they emerge into beautiful children.

The smallest smile on a child’s face can brighten up my entire day, because of that, the area of nursing I hope to work in would be pediatrics. When most people hear the words MISS AFRICA TRI-STATE , they automatically assume that it’s all about beauty, but there’s more to MISS AFRICA TRI-STATE than just that. It’s about caring for the poor and involving yourself in activities that would help change lives. I’ve always loved to  involve myself in trying to find new ways to help our beloved home  AFRICA  become better than what it already is today. I can’t do it all in one day, but it takes one step at a time and with prayer, through JESUS, all things are possible.

AFRICA  is a beautiful place  filled with beauty and gold and plenty more but somehow, most people seem to forget the beauty in our country. My country is a blessing. Just like  many countries in the world, we have good parts and bad parts but somehow, AFRICA  is always looked down upon as the country with only poor and sick people.

They always seem to forget about our beautiful music and finger licking food. I want to be part of the movement that reminds everyone that AFRICA  is a place  with pride. In my beautiful country GHANA, we’re  always willing to welcome anybody with open arms using our most famous word “Akwaaba”.! ……..Little by Little it will progress into a better country, remembering my favorite quote ” Before you can walk you must first learn how to crawl.”What’s a beauty without purpose? NOTHING!
