Miss Africa Tri-State 2014 – Nasiphi Sobahle
Nasiphi Sobahle

Sanibonani, Molweni, Hallo, Thobela, Dumela, Lumela, Abusheni, Sanibona,Avulwani, Salibona and Hello!!!

I am from a country that boasts of 11 languages. I go by the name of Nasiphi Sobahle, 23yrs of age and I’m from a small, cold and dusty town called Kokstad, located in the beautiful and historic country of South Africa.
I have obtained a degree in Tourism Management from the Durban University of Technology, currently working on my second qualification, a BA in Government Administration and Development. I absolutely love to travel as well as being encountered with people from all walks of life, from different backgrounds and I guess this is what makes life so Beautiful. I personally believe that my career choices in Tourism/Hospitality as well as Government Development defines me in more ways than one…
I am raised by single mother ( Nomfanelo Mtezankuni) who is more than my pillar of strength, I could write a whole book about what am amazing mother God has blessed me with! I’m safe to say that I am a complete replica of her, that’s where I get my independence, my strong personality and that is how I have survived being in The United States of America, because her teachings , values and morals have been instilled in me and I will forever hold onto them! It’s imperative to never lose yourself when success is knocking on your door step, when God is paving the way for you, when God is leading you to nothing but your hearts desires, Yes,I am certain that you have gathered that above all, I AM A BELIEVER, I grew up in a home where I was made aware that Christianity is NOT a hobby, it’s rather a lifestyle and I have carried that with me.

I have two beautiful little sisters, Bumbano (10) and her name means Unity, referring to the united and close knit family that we are, my baby sisters name is Sulungeka (8) and that means Purity ! All our names have a meaning to them and all referring to the different life stages and phases my mom was at when pregnant. My name simply means “A Gift from God” that’s the direct English translation . That alone is able to paint a picture of the kind of family that I am part of. One thing my mom preaches to her 3 daughters is the vast opportunities that the world has to offer, she always says “the opportunities to a better YOU are endless” .
Winning Miss Africa Tri State has been an honor for me, i am still in awe up to this day on how God works because I prayed for this opportunity and God granted it to me! I have major plans both to benefit the community and myself, this is another chance I have been given to continue doing community work in South Africa and The continent of Africa at large!
I have said much and beyond much, this brings me to my conclusion , a famous quote that I live by on a daily Basis,by Bishop Desmond Tutu , he said ” Do a little bit of good wherever you are and those little bit of goods put together will overwhelm the world”

Miss Africa Tri-State 2013
Zoubaidatou Sylla

On June 29th, 2013, hundreds of Elite Africans and distinguished residents of New York, New Jersey, Philadelphia, Connecticut, and guests all over the United States were witnesses as Guinea beauty Zoubaidatou Sylla was crowned Miss Africa  CONGRATULATIONS !!!

Here’s Zoubaidatou in her own words…

Hello everyone Zoubaidatou Sylla is the introductory of who I am, from the beautiful country of Guinea, came to the United States at the age of 14. I am currently a goal driven …student at Essex County College studying criminal justice in order to insure justice and security in the US and the beautiful continent of Africa. I stand for Education, Love, and Peace;

My platform is fighting against Female Genital Mutilation because I was a victim of FGM at a very young age and I believe that no child should have to face the pain or side affects of FGM. Miss Africa Tristate is not about beauty but helping the continent of Africa, also to reunite our beautiful countries to stand as one Africa. My parents always told me that if you always wipe tears of a child’s face you will live with a smile on your face. As Miss Africa Tristate I vow to conduct my self as a lady at all time.

As President Barack Obama Quote “The best way to not feel hopeless is to get up and do something. Don’t wait for good things to happen to you. If you go out and make some good things happen, you will fill the world with hope, you will fill yourself with hope.”

Miss Africa Tri-State 2012
Joyce Oppongwah

On June 16th, 2012, hundreds of Elite Africans and distinguished residents of New York, New Jersey, Philadelphia, Connecticut, and guests all over the United States were witnesses as Ghanaian beauty Joyce Oppongwah was crowned Miss Africa Tri State CONGRATULATIONS !!!

Here’s Joyce in her own words…

Hello everyone, My name is Joyce Oppongwah . I am 22 years old. I was born in GHANA, came to the States when I was 9 years old. I’m a current student at Union County College and plan to transfer to Penn State University or Rutgers University in the fall. I am pursing a nursing major. I’ve always had a passion for being around kids and watching them as they emerge into beautiful children.

The smallest smile on a child’s face can brighten up my entire day, because of that, the area of nursing I hope to work in would be pediatrics. When most people hear the words MISS AFRICA TRI-STATE , they automatically assume that it’s all about beauty, but there’s more to MISS AFRICA TRI-STATE than just that. It’s about caring for the poor and involving yourself in activities that would help change lives. I’ve always loved to  involve myself in trying to find new ways to help our beloved home  AFRICA  become better than what it already is today. I can’t do it all in one day, but it takes one step at a time and with prayer, through JESUS, all things are possible.

AFRICA  is a beautiful place  filled with beauty and gold and plenty more but somehow, most people seem to forget the beauty in our country. My country is a blessing. Just like  many countries in the world, we have good parts and bad parts but somehow, AFRICA  is always looked down upon as the country with only poor and sick people.

They always seem to forget about our beautiful music and finger licking food. I want to be part of the movement that reminds everyone that AFRICA  is a place  with pride. In my beautiful country GHANA, we’re  always willing to welcome anybody with open arms using our most famous word “Akwaaba”.! ……..Little by Little it will progress into a better country, remembering my favorite quote ” Before you can walk you must first learn how to crawl.”What’s a beauty without purpose? NOTHING!
